To be honest ive not even loked at Windows 7 much, i thought it would not be out till next year.
Am i right in reading it will be out by end of August? Whatever the date is, it got me thinking....
Im planning on buying a Gaming PC, i was going to get Vista 64 bit. But if a new windows is coming out in around two months, then surely im being a mug buying a old Windows that will most likley drop in price alot from the current £90 in few months.
Im guessing us Vista users won't get a free version of W7?
I have read i could use the free Windows 7 for now, then buy a full copy when it's released. Fair enough, but few questions.
If i buy a new PC(Gaming PC), and it comes without a OP system on it, how hell i suppose to get it on the computer? Im guessing i would have to copy it to disk from my laptop and then install it on computer. Surely it would not switch on without a OP software? How do these things work, never switched on a computer without a OP software before
2ndly is it correct, if i use the free version you can't just pay for the full version simply. You would have to put on a fresh clean Windows 7 on, this for losing all the data(unless you back it up).
Surely this is not correct? If it is how dumb are Microsoft

You can't copy the OS from your laptop - You'll actually have to buy an OS to put on it.
Buy a new PC between the 26th of June and the 31st of January with Vista Home Premium (NOT Basic), Business or Ultimate and you get an upgrade for a nominal cost - but it's up to the manufacturer.
Buy a RETAIL (not OEM) copy of Home Premium, Business or Ultimate and you'll get 7 for P&P.
It'll turn on without an OS - but it won't actually boot into anything.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

You insert the disk with the OS on it and start your computer, and it will boot from the CD/DVD and start the set up process.2ndly is it correct, if i use the free version you can't just pay for the full version simply. It's not a "free version". It's a beta intended for developers to try out, and to enable Microsoft to elicit feedback and bug reports prior to its initial release (some would also say the the large beta program is also something akin to a bait and switch tactic, but that's another matter).
Microsoft don't intend for the majority of their user base to upgrade from the beta to the final version.0 -
Cheers both.
Do you know the "supposed" release date, im seeing so many different dates:rolleyes:0 -
to your question i would think so providing its 32 to 32 bit and same with 64
its been confirmed that lets say your on vista home prem (32) you can upgrade to 7 home prem, ultimate etc (same or better version) with something like 3 clicks and no data loss or anything as long as its 32to 32 bit and again the same with 64Back by no demand whatsoever.0
