I dont think they can. Dell sell the printers so cheap because customers have to buy the the cartridges from Dell.

I got a Dell 720 for £10 in one Dell's offers. But a black cartridge is £25

I've got some refilled ones from Ebay for £16.

(and the printer is useless at feeding paper, reckon you should stick with Epson or HP...)

Dell printers are rebadged Lexmarks, however the cartidges are slightly different to stop you using the cheaper Lexmark ones, some people modify them to fit.

Best bet is either to refill them, or buy a new printer which will cost less than the price of two cartridges.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I would bin the printer but here is a source of remanufactured carts http://www.cartridgesave.co.uk/cartridge-list/Dell/720.html
  • I have a Dell 720 and just clipping the plastic guide on the cartridge clap on the printer allows you to use Lexmark cartrages.
However Lexmark ink is not cheap either.

PCPro magazine did a review of the true running costs of inkjet printers back in their April 2006 issue. The Dell 720 was hugely expensive to run with Dell's cartridges (£51.67 total for the Black & Tri-Colour cartidges) - they basically said it was cheaper to recycle it and get another printer, than to buy a new set of cartridges

The HPs and Epsons did better, but not all of their models are cheap to run.

This site is marginally cheaper than Cartridgesave for some Dell cartridges, even after you've added on (Super Saver) postage...

Ordered a BARGAIN dell system today, which included a dell 926 printer/copier/scanner
I was told that MOST manufacturers cartridges fit! Anyone have one of these if so are they easy to refill, also an outlet that sells re manufactured carts if the above is not true ! thanks
I can find sites for the 946,but not the 926
