Ive got a printer that has a serial cable but am i right in thinking that serial is old and you dont see it much on motherboards these days so would i be better off just getting a serial to usb adapter or buy a serial pci express card

Is serial the only option? If so then I would go with a PCI card, and leave the USB's free for other peripherals.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

The technology is old, but is still in use by many professional printers. These do tend to have other options though, such as ethernet.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

Sure it's a serial port? Not a parallel port?
The printer port is the large pink thing (errrrr, hahahaha!) on top and the serial ports are the blue ones:
I can't see any usb to parallel adapters, but there are some expansion cards with parallel ports which don't cost too much.
Some mobos do still have parallel ports though.0 -
