You seem to be in a similar scenario to what I was in last year. I was the main carer for my elderly uncle and worked full time and was studying at nights.
The home helps were only allocated half an hour to prepare food, supervise him eating, help him to loo etc. Which was just not practical when you were dealing an elderly patient. (anyway I will have a rant about patients being treated like robots another time!!!!)
Sorry back to the point...my uncle ony had a tiny little freezer compartment, and would only eat traditional meat and veg dinners, no spices etc (if there was a hint of pepper in the dish he knew it!). He was a farmer and insisted on boiled potatoes at most meals.
I had bought a tin of potatoes for emergencies when I didn't have time to cook fresh. The home helps gave them to him one night and he said they were really nice!
I used to cook batches of stew, mince etc and freeze them in the smallest tubs I could get (a sparrow would eat more and I hate waste!). Kept them in my freezer and take it up the night before.
Aunt Bessies Mash, tinned potatoes and micro chips (he insisted on chips once a week and oven ones would never be ready in time) were a life saver!
I feel sorry for people who dont have family and cant afford the pre-prepared meals. An elderly friend of my uncle survived on cuppa soups and sandwiches because the home helps did not have time to do everything they were meant to in half an hour.:grouphug:0 -

If I didn't do her shopping I don't know how she would manage, I guess she would have to go in a home.
Because she just won't eat meals-on-wheels.
She won't even eat most ready meals.
These Cook ones are expensive, but she will eat them, so they are worth it. If she doesn't have something she really likes then she just won't eat, she will starve rather than eat for the sake of it. Shes never been really interested in food. She brought me up on XXXX & chips:rolleyes: A coffee & a fag is her idea of a meal:rolleyes:0
