over £4000 per year

Options
I have been meaning to do this for a while but I have just sat down and worked out how much better off I am since joining this site ( a month ago ) and it works out at over £4000 a year :j. I have listed the savings below.

was now saving cashback

Buildings & contents ins £22.42 £22.62 -0.20 £110.00
Gas & electric £44.00 £40.00 £4.00 £12.50
Phone, broadband & TV £40.00 £37.50 £2.50
Smoking - packed in £138.93 0 £138.93
Food £310.00 £120.00 £190.00

so far this works out at monthly savings of £335.23 - a whopping £4022.76 per year :j . Other money saving things that I have done are

1. moved £3000 c/card balance onto a 0% c/card thus saving interest every month.
2. I have paid off 2 overdrafts totalling £600 so I have no overdraft fees every month
3. I have opened a Alliance & Leicester account through a referral and will get £90 cashback for this and have referred 3 people so I will get £15 back for this. Also I am going to use the A & L account as my main current account so will earn interest on balances at a much higher rate.
4. I have made a claim for unfair bank charges - total £616
5. I am on a water meter so have put space saving bags into my cisterns to save a gallon every time we flush
6. I now have a egg money card to replace my c/card and d/card for all purchases which is cleared every month so I do not get charged interest. I also get 1% cashback on all purchases and interest earned on my money while it is still in my account.
7. Unfortunately I can not change my mortgage at present as I would get penalty fees that would outweigh the savings - but in October when the penalty charge period ends I will be able to change to make a saving of £90 per month - that will be another £1080 per year :j

The title of this post is 'saving over £4000 per year' when I change my mortgage and with all of the other savings it will be more like £6500 per year :j

I still cant believe the savings that I have made and can not thank everybody that has given me advice enough. :grinheart THANKYOU :grinheart

sorry the headings did not work for my list of savings. The first figure is what I was paying, second figure is what I am paying now, third figure is the saving made and the fourth figure is any cashback that I have earned by switching. Hope this makes sense :o

Well done you. That is an impressive amount of money.
I dont spend that much to save that much (!) but have made over £100 pounds saving on my fuel bill, loads off my food and phone bill, and use fast4net at £6.99 a month for my internet, so probably about £500 for the year.

thanks equine induced poverty. The main savings are and will be cutting on food shopping bills ( we eat better now though as it is all HM stuff ) cutting out smoking ( still managing but forgot to put my patch on yesterday I was a complete female dog :) ) and I cant wait to change my mortgage later on this year. I didnt go into overdraft at all last month for the first time in years. This site has motivated me in so many ways. I am also planning to grow my own veggies this year :p I have just started listing stuff on ebay and green metropolis to increase my income too.
The other side affect of this site is that I will not be walked over by retailers anymore. I stand up for myself when in the past I would have just paid up and shut up. I recently took out a free trial with Sainsburys for DVDs and cancelled after a week but they would not accept that I had cancelled. With a bit of help from here and the consumer action group ( part of the bank action group ) I stood up for myself and they have backed down....probably another side effect of stopping smoking too  LOL
I may also have some news in the next couple of weeks on my claim for unfair bank charges - watch this space ;)
