I'm after a bit of advice, i'm looking at buying a desktop mainly for surfing the net, playing and burning cd's/dvds and maybe playing a few games on (nothing great though just stuff like the sims etc). I have noticed that Dell are offering their Dimension 5150 system for £399, at first this looks great but has i believe on-board graphics. Does anyone know if this is upgradable also is the processor a good choice, and finally, has anyone had any experience with the operating system Windows XP Media.
Many thanks, all replies are very gratefully recieved. Heres the link for the offer

Im afraid that most standard home PCs do have onboard graphics (hard to avoid) that share memory so as long as the graphics card is compatble with the game just make sure you have enough RAM to help memory sharing.
Only other thing is to see any options to upgrade the graphics card.

On the Dell site when you have a look at the upgrade options
the grapics card option is greyed out so it cant be selected.
Obviously RAM upgrade is upgradeable but not the graphics as I see it :think:0 -
My dell Dimension had onboard graphics so I bought a graphics card from ebuyer and upgraded it myself. 5 minute job.0

I have just bought this pc, the processor is Hyper threading so you in theory have 2 processors, the Graphics card is upgradable, the one I ordered cost me just over £700 and is running very smoothly. I would reccomend this PC to anyone. Its the perfect combination between Basic home using and Gaming, plus with XP Media Center edition it real does come in handy!
Its a must buy for anyone that needs a new PC!!!0 -
The memory and video on the 5150 can both be upgraded, but you'll pay through the nose to do it through Dell. Buythe PC there and the upgrades elsewhere. It won't harm the warranty but you would need to take them out if you were seeking warranty support. What goes around - comes around0

Use evalue code 305 - D04516a to get a 5150 with a 2.80 ghz dual core. You can change warranty to 1 year and upgrade the graphics card to the x600. Comes in at £457.86 - with a 19" tft too!0
