Renting a property in joint names...

I wonder if someone could please offer some advice?

I am considering renting a property with my partner. However, my partner has bad debts, and a very poor credit rating. Firstly, how will my partner's bad credit rating affect us both being able to rent somewhere. He does not have a CCJ nor ever declared bankruptcy.

I currently have a good credit rating.

If I move in with my partner and we rent a property in joint names, will this affect my credit rating? I am currently living at his property but this is on the market, soon to be sold. All the bills are currently in his name.

I fear that if we move in together and we have both our names on the tenancy agreement and bill accounts that my credit rating will be affected as a result? Could someone please advise. I wondered whether if my partner can show that he can pay the rent solely on his wage only, will they require my name to be included on the tenancy agreement?

I will be starting maternity leave at the beginning of July and therefore, my wage will be low. 6 weeks at 90% of my current weekly wage and then £123 thereafter. After the baby is born we can then claim for child benefit which I believe is another £20 per week. If anyone is aware of any other benefits we may be able to claim this would be much appreciated.

My partner currently has around £25,000 in debts and we have a CAB appointment on Tuesday to discuss the best way forward. He has been considering declaring bankruptcy or an IVA. If he decided to opt for this, how would this affect us continuting to rent a property?

I would be so pleased if you could advise the best way forward.
