Speedferries is great - Dover to Boulogne. The prices work like Easyjet so the earlier you book, the cheaper it is. This is a catamarna service so can be disrupted in bad weather. The other cheap alternative is Norfolkline - Dover to Dunkerque. Their crossing time is longer but the advantage is they let you change details on their early booking tickets, usually without charge, and they do NOT accept coaches so the passenger lounges are never too full as the lorry drivers have their own lounge.

If you use Carrefour petrol station when the supermarket is closed (but the petrol station is still open) you can't do it without a French credit card, which is a pain for my husband who works in Calais and takes the car there from Dover to fill up with diesel. Petrol costs in France are no longer significantly cheaper than UK prices.

A good site for driving in France is https://www.viamichelin.com which gives you fuel cost according to your car's economy and also gives you the toll costs.

We went last year by Ferrycats speed ferries ( they don`t aperate anymore) £5 for buying a bred in CO-OP for 5 days- it was great.

Does anyone know if you buy a single , will you be ok to come back . I never understand why you can`t just single both ways?
    Any explanation? Thanks
