Valuation of house contents - reaasonable fee

I have to get the contents of a house valued, as I am executor for a Will. I have managed to get a quote from one firm of £675 + vat, which seems a bit high to me (although they say they do a lot of valuations for IF forms and IHT etc., and seem very reputable).

What would people expect to pay for this sort service? I don't know whether to stick with this one, or should shop around further....

Unless it's a very large house or has lots of valuable items, most people just guess/estimate. Bear in mind that most furniture/electrical goods will be secondhand and their value will be a fraction of new price. Obviously if there are antiques or specialist collection(s) then you will need professional valuation.

unless good quality antiques it normally costs money to clear the stuff let alone sell it.
