Sorry for your loss and sorry for all the questions.
    • So are you saying that before your father died he had £6000 in his bank account and £3000 of this is needed to pay for his funeral and £3000 to repay relatives who paid for his wife's funeral?
    • Are there no other assets i.e house?
    • Is there no other money?
    • Was the £3000 owed to relatives paid before he died?
    • Have you settled his funeral bill from your own money or from his money?
    • Can you access his accounts now he has died?
When my mother died my father paid her funeral bill and when he died we didn't pay the funeral company but passed the bill onto the solicitor who was dealing with the estate. Funeral companies are used to waiting for their money in such circumstances.

If you haven't paid your father's bill this will come first out of his estate leaving £3k for other creditors. All claims on the estate will have to be made to the person dealing with it. This means the family have to lodge a claim as well as the bank.

What I'm really asking is - CAN THEY FIND OUT ( oops sorry for shouting ) that the other bank account existed ?

This site doesn't condone illegal activities.

If he had thousands in the bank, why wasn't he making loan repayments when he was alive?

He didn't have thousands in the bank - if you read the post you will see he recieved a compensation cheque just a week before he died, which he had been waiting on for years
Thank You for your input I think banks threatening elderly bereaved ill people is a crime & the money is owed to family members

Its a shame dad didnt pay the family back just before he died, all this hassle would have been avoided (apart from the bank taking what was left.

i applaud your dad for wanting to pay off his debts, good for him. I bet youre really proud of him and so you should be.
There are so many people come on the boards looking for ways to avoid paying what they owe and sometimes it runs into many thousands.

Do what youre dad would want you to do, do your mourning and move on
    Good luck to you all.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
