Thanks to all who have replied :)

Interestingly I see a few recommendations here for the online retailer used previously (where the perfume authenticity/quality was doubted) I'm convinced it's just a bit of paranoia due to the prices being 40%-50% less than the high street department stores!

Do you mean Cheap Smells? A lot of people think they're dodgy but I don't think they are. They have a good range and their prices are good, I just don't like how they structure their postage costs. That's why I tend to use Perfume Plus Direct- the postage is only £1.95 for standard delivery, no matter how much you order. Look Fantastic is good too, as is HQ Hair, but both these sites usually to stick to the RRPs.

Cheap Smells had to be the worst choice of name ever, but I have had many bargains from them, all genuine, and I'm a bit of a perfume nerd.

This site is good too, despite apparently selling just cosmetics:

Well I wasn't going to name names as there is no evidence and no reason to libel anyone. A family member bought a bottle of 'First' and thought it didn't smell quite the same as the one bought from their local dept store, but they weren't absolutely sure about it. Hence my thinking that it's just a slightly irrational feeling that the deal seems too good to be true.

I'm sure if a company like this was selling counterfeit products there would be a lot of warnings on forums like this, but there aren't. Maybe an email to customer services and Van Cleef asking about the distributors would set minds at rest.

The problem with emailing Van Cleef is that it may prompt them to stop the re-sale of, for example, testers. I know a Frenchwoman who sold only the geniune article, acquired legitimately, but someone emailed Guerlain and her supplies dried up.

Don't think this is an option anyway having looked at the website, there are no contact details for the UK. Just refers you to the retailer in London

Put the name of the perfume in your search engine and it will bring up all genuine shops that sell it.

I second the vote for Cheapsmells - rubbish name, but excellent products and service!

I placed two orders with Cheapsmells, one last Friday and another on Tuesday but neither have turned up. I recall a post saying their order was received within two days. Does it usually take this long with cheapsmells?
On the other hand I ordered a tester from Fragrance zone and got it within 3days. The perfume smells exactly like the full price one, if there's any difference it's might be slightly stonger. Spoke to a guy called Mark I think, he returned my calls immediately and answered all my silly (newbie sceptic to online fragrance/tester purchasing) questions patiently! The customer service is excellent! :T

Personally my orders with Cheapsmells have always been pretty prompt, I've only once had a problem and it got sorted very quickly but maybe I was just lucky?!

As they are shipping from Guernsey (if I remember correctly) I would give them a few days yet - plus the postal strikes might have delayed them by a day or so. If in doubt, just contact them either online or by phone as I did.
  • fragrance direct have always delivered for me. quidco does cash back too
