Problem I find is if everyone knows she likes red wine, she will get loads.

We have given the teachers Yankee Candle stuff and that always goes down very well.

I kind of agree here. I would make a statement that I like red wine, but actually I am a fussy wine drinker and only like certain types of red wine.

I think its a lovely idea, and would have no qualms about giving a teacher a nice bottle of red wine - always well-received!!

The teacher will be very pleased to have been appreciated - there's no need to spend £20-30, just a £5 bottle would be nice, as it's a bit more expensive than the cheapest there is, but not so much as to make it feel awkward - if you get a card, and write down exactly what you've said here about the difference the teacher made to your child, that will be worth more! If you want to, the other thing you could do would be to drop a line to the head at school - the letter can stay on the teacher's file, and sometimes quotes from letters like this are nice to use in future references,

Hi my daughter has had a really rubbish year at school, she is in year 6 and had been badly bullied to the point that she started self harming.Well when it all came to a head her inclusion person at the school took charge and was fantastic I cant praise her enough for everything she has done not only for my daughter but for all the family she involved the school nurse and a wonderful woman called Jemma who came and did a one to one session with my daughter once a week I don't think we could have got through it without them.Anyway when things had improved my daughter wanted to give each of them a gift just to say thank you, we didn't have a lot of money so we lined three small boxes with pretty paper baked some treats ( coconut ice mint thins truffles ) and covered with florist film and a bow wrote a thank you card for each and took those in they were much appreciated but cost us next to nothing .Sorry for hijacking the thread

Two of my fave red are Il Papavero (the most reordered red Laithwaite's does) and Posado del Rey. Both gutsy reds and both from Laithwaite's (on Quidco) and although I know not necessarily relevant to your gift but very handy for me - they can both be ordered in half bottles. Good for me as DH works away and it doesn't feel so bad opening a half. Neither is going to set you back £20-30 a bottle but they are both lovely. To be honest I don't think you can go wrong with Laithwaite's wine anyway, you get a lot better wine for your money and we have never been disappointed by the quality.

If you want to pay £20-30, you can't go wrong with a Brunello di Montalcino - you'll probably need to go to a specialist though. I did hear Tesco's did it once... Anyway, it's my favourite, and usually just under £30. Which is why I only get 1 or 2 bottles a year!

    Another vote for faustino

Faustino I is about £15 (sometimes is on offer) and its a '96 rioja exceptionally smooth and more than ready to be drunk now. Exceptional bottle of wine and I dont think you should spend more really. Alot of the expensive wines wont be ready to drink right now but the faustino is.
