life assurance question

Can anyone help me please? I have been applying for mortgage life assurance/critical illness cover for myself and my partner. The problem is that I can't get critical illness cover for myself because I have a high BMI and I suffer from depression. The last person I spoke to was a broker who said he covered all the insurance companies in the country and none of them was willing to give me this cover. Do you think this would be right or is there any way I can get cover?

Hi
Saying that you 'cant' get cover probably wasnt too helpful. Every company is different when it comes to underwriting.
Out of interest how tall are you and how much do weigh?
Depression for Critical Illness is not normally an issue (depending on the specifics of course). Depression can affect a little claimed on area called Total & Permenant Disability but its very hard to claim under... depression is more an issue for life cover because the insurers would be looking at the suicide risk.
Can you provide any more info about the depression? Any suicidal thoughts or ideations?
There is always someone that will insure you, its just finding who will do it.0 -

That's a dangerous statement to make!I am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. I also write wills. All information posted on this site is for discussion only, and should not be taken as advice.0 -
not at all, Lloyds of London underwriters will insure everyone... its just about how much you want to pay.
If hunnybugs1 broker didnt provide this as an option he/she:
1. didnt try hard enough
2. would have felt it was out of the clients price range (but should have asked)
3. didnt have access to Lloyds underwriters
I'm interested to see what hunnybugs1 says.0 -

My broker said they covered every insurance company in Britain. They said they spoke to all of the underwriters and noone was willing to provide me with critical illness cover. I would have thought that they would have at least asked if I would be prepared to go through a medical before deciding on this. I am thinking it would probably be just as well to go ahead with life insurance for both my partner and myself and only have critical illness cover for him. At least it's better than nothing and I can't see how I can convince anyone I am perfectly healthy if they won't even consider looking at me.0 -
Hunnybugs1, it does happen but is quite rare for total decline. BMI and depression are both causes for insurers to have concerns but they do vary considerably. Would you feel comfortable posting your bmi figure?0
