screen freeze on Thurs night so turned off processor & left overnight, this has done the trick before & it just starts OK next time. However on this occassion no luck, even when the PC tried starting from a previous good configuration. Left with no option than to reload Windows XP from disc (or traumatise myself by ringing Dell via India!). Set up Ok but said no internet found even though my ethernet cable was still installed - had to reload broadband from ISP CD but wouldn't recognise ethernet connection but worked when I tried with the USB cable - any thoughts anyone? - I'm just going off to get another shot of caffeine as I've been battling with this all morning - will hit the red wine at a more suitable hour!

I expect hat putting in the ethernet cable first didnt help as
Its usually a case of putting the setup CD in first and plugging in cables
when prompted and not before, you can however on some ISPs just bung the
cable in and away it runs Blueyonder does this.
Also just make sure your ethernet adapter sodtware via XP install has been installed.0 -
with you using an ethernet cable are you connecting to a router? if so have you got an IP address?
(start, run, command, ipconfig)0 -
Then if still no good try, ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew0
