Are they accurate as im getting conflicting answers with my search for cheaper gas and electric. I have a prepay meter so i know they dont compare, i substututed this to standard electricity using the same kwh.
If i put in the exact kwh i have used fro both of a yearly period its say eon could save me £135 and British gas low down. However upon actually going onto their web sites and comparing their current prices to my Scottish power prices im paying now to the exact amount of kwh i have used over a year. Eon is actually dearer and British gas has come in £235 cheaper. British gas of all suppliers. Can not believe it so want a second opinion if someone has the time please.

Based on 17600 kwh gas and 4550 kwh electric a year. Taken of my bills so an accurate reading.

Scottish power premium plus gas.
Gas im paying 11.64p daily charge @ 365 = £42.486
17600 kwh @ 3.448p = £606.848
Total £649.334 with direct debit upped to £69 a month.

British gas web saver 3 dual fuel gas
Tier 1 (first 670 kwh) @ 6.6p = £44.22
Tier 2 16930 kwh @ 3.123p = £528.72

A saving of £77.00

Scottish power prepay meter electric
365 @ 18.15p = £66.24
4550 kwh @ 11.788p = £536.35
Total £602.59

British Gas web saver 3 dual fuel eletric
Tier 1, (first 125kwh) @ 21.707p = £27.13
Tier 2, 4436 @ 10.128p = £449.18
Total = £476.31

Saving of £126.28 and a total saving of £203.00

This does not include any discounts on top for dual fuel etc which should amount to a further £30 at least.
Does this look correct. Seems to good to be true. Hopefully all i need is to get the prepay meter taken out or am i missing something?
Thanks in advance

  • Company websites should always have the most accurate prices.

I still look at comparison sites but I do compare all of them and would only switch to one of their recommendations if they all gave the same result.

did the above rates you quoted include the VAT @ 5% ?
  • Do you have a pre payment meter ? If you do I dont think you can go for BG websaver...

as per the reply BG of all suppliers many people still refer them to the old gas board and the most expensive but thats simply not true.

Gas and elec is priced by post code and how your consumption fits into suppliers tier pricing

You are comparing Scottish Power's prepayment tariff with direct debit tariffs. Yes, prepayment tariffs are that more expensive. But the cost of E-on's ES14 tariff should be very close to British Gas' WebSaver 3 tariff (in most regions) - if not then that may be because you are in E-on's native region and would be charged a bit more for electricity.

    Hi
Yes i am comparing Scottish Power pre payment as thats what im paying now. Its hard to compare prepayment on compare sites but on the compare BG websaver pricing is different to their website. Tier 1 is based on first 6280 (cant remember exactly) but on their website its the first 670 kwh.

Im in the process of getting the meter taken out to go on a duel fuel so these savings should be pretty accurate. Quite a good saving to.

Scottish power have quoted £150 to remove the meter which i get back after 12 months and a standard £53 which i dont get back. Absolutley rip off considering we are not in debt to them and the meter was in before we moved in so as not even our choice to have the meter. Told them not to bother.
Yet BG have said we can change to them. Gas saving of £77 and use their prepayment electric giving a saving of £50. They will do a credit check in if ok will remove for free. Either way its still a saving of at least £127 rising to nearly £250 with dual fuel and online discount etc if the meter gets taken out which we should.
