Newbie to saving, please help point us in the right direction

Hi all

Right well, as per our Quidco :D we set up a first direct savings account, this is for bits of money we can afford to purt away, from Quidco & other online bits, our paypal and other bits & bats. We aticipate that we wont be saving any more than 100 a month, probably max per month 80quid.

First direct have told us that we wont get any interest on our new FD savings account until we have 500 in there

What else can we use that will get us some interest over the next six months? Best please, but we need it to a) be joint b) not easy to get cash out of and c) able to make payments online with it and d) not have to pay a set amount per month

Any ideas? Ive had a look round here, but to me, its all a baffle.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

4.5% interest paid monthly; minimum deposit £1; in terms of getting hold of money it'll take about 3 days so is that too easy? .... and the current added incentive of a free £10 when you open an account if you use a referral code from the thread in the Referrers Board. (The referrer gets £10 too - yes, I'm on it, but lots of referrers to choose from who added their codes before me...).
    Happy saving!

I'd also recommend ING - they're very easy to set up, have great customer service and you can open up to 10 accounts with them - so you can have savings 'pots' if you like :) I prefer to do all my banking online too, so they're great in that respect.

Cahoot has an online saver with a rate of 4.85% which offers £20 back on Quidco. I'm in the process of opening that, so can't comment on service much but it's good so far!
