use of someone else's car

I use a friend's car, I'm on the insurance, and I pay some money every month towards maintenance, tax and petrol.
On the statement of affairs, if you have use of someone else's vehicle they want to know the reg, owner's name and value of the car.
Why do they want to know this? Is his car at risk at all?
Thank you in advance. you're all very helpful here.

No it is not at risk but a) if you do not put it down, the you will not be allowed any allowances for said car in your I&E, b) they check with DVLA so you are telling prokies it will come to light.DX

my main concern was why they'd want to know the value of the car, since it isn't mine. As long as the owner isn't bothered by the OR that's fine with me!
thanks for your help0 -

Maybe so they have it on record, for when some busy body phones the OR and says 'I saw Mr gre driving around in a red Ferrari today, why haven't you taken it' they can answer without having to contact you :rotfl:Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
You may laugh! that happened to me not long after i'd gone BR a few years ago....concerned "neighbour" went mental when I turned up in a brand new 07 Nissan (OR not interested as it was a motability vehicle)

How will DVLA know if you use a friends / someone else's car? I'm not encouraging dishonesty just interested in your reasonings.
DVLA know if you've got a driving licence and if you have a car registered in your name, but you don't need to notify DVLA if you are using someone else's car, or not that I am aware of.
I would imagine the only people who would have a record indicating whether you use a particular car would be an insurance company, and even then, you could be named driver on someone's policy, but that doesn't prove you use the car, it would suggest you do, but you could have stopped using the car or no longer have access to it and the policy holder just hasn't updated their policy.0 -
What Dalip means MR is that the OR will check with the DVLA if you own any cars. So people can't just say that their car is their fathers car as it is worth £5k and they don't want to get rid of it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
