Do Grandparents have legal rights in Scotland?

hiya, i had exactly the same issue with my husbands mother and phoned a few laywers/citizens advice etc. They all told me the same thing:

Grandparents do not have any rights...including visitation rights HOWEVER-->
they said that anyone can sue anyone for anything, even if it wasn't a 'right'....
and so if she was to pay the expense of taking you to court to see your child then she would need to prove that a) she has played a part in the childs life already and b) her being in their lives is beneficial to the child, regardless of what the relationship is between the parents and grandparents.

in my case my husbands mother had not met our baby yet and so our child had not got to know her- i am sure your childs grandparents wouldnt go as far as going to all the expense of a court case tho so dont worry too much. and if there are any threats use the 'granparents do not have any rights in scotland' line, cos its true! good luck!

Thank you all so much for your kind words and advice, its been a great help to me this afternoon. I've spoken to the citizens advice and they have put my mind at rest, I just couldn't bear anyone coming in between us and splitting up the three of us. She can tell her family whatever she likes... I've never met any of them up until now and I'm not likely to rush to meet them now.
