    Good luck!

Thank you for the advice and encouragement! I'm about to add some memory, make sure that's working fine, then go for the reinstall. Thanks again... .
  • Hi,

I like Driver Max, never had any problems with it.

    Success!

Well, partial success. It has reinstalled but it can't find the driver for my ethernet controller. Now I'm not sure what an ethernet controller is, but I'd saved all of my drivers (through Double Driver) on my USB device and have subsequently copied them back onto my desktop in a folder. When XP searches for my driver it can't find it. Any suggestions...?

If there's a copy of Double Driver in the folder you can use that. If not, there's always the Hardware Update Wizard. :)

Mmm...the 'restore' button! Sorry for the stupid question; it now works. Thank you for all of your help... .

Well done David, so you made it through with complete success?

Congratulations! The first few formats and reinstalls are always scarey!

Yeah, my nlited version of XP was pretty successful, although I wish that I'd slimmed it down a bit more, and Double Driver was really helpful as well. Now I'm just making sure my anti-virus is up to date and adding Google Chrome. I think I know what I'm doing after the whole process so I feel slightly more confident about doing it again in the future... .
