Desperate for a bath !!

Due to exceptional circumstances, I had to flee from my old town to a new one, I managed this through a mutual exchange. This new house doesnt have a bath, just a shower (and its a bog standard electric trickly thing, that I feel is not good enough for daily use)... I asked the housing association if they could put a bath in and they said I took the exchange as seen... I explained that I have IBD and that a shower is great at times, but that also a bath is a need as it helps ease pain and my mood etc, and that the shower is naff! They told me to get in touch with Occuaptional Therepist at Social Services, and she has rung to say do I want bars putting on the walls!!

Is there anyway round this?

And why is everything such a battle, i arent asking for a jaccuzi!!!

Thanks xx

You knew there was no bath when you viewed and you accepted it. Ask for an exchange. Or do what many other tenants do, ask the HA for permission to have a bath installed at your cost.

I have no answer for you, just huge sympathy - we love our current house because of the garden & neighbourhood, but it has no bath!! Drives us nuts, a shower just isn't the same!

I feel for you. When you saw it and it had no bath, wouldn't you think about it first.

Hi, thanks for yr reply. I think I was a bit vague in my 1st post, I had to leave my old place urgently and it was rushed through (2 weeks) because of the danger I was in. When I came to look at the house (which was found through Womens Aid), the last thing I was bothered about was a bath.

I am mentally drained and physically unable to get another exhange so soon. I am also very skint so could not afford to put a bath in myself.

    Thanks x

We have just a shower (no bath installed) and when we moved in the shower wasn't getting a strong flow. Ours isn't an electric shower but the hose from the wall wasn't properly connected so water was coming down the outside of that restricting the flow. It's fine now and maybe you could get onto your Housing Association and get them to send out a plumber if the flow isn't great.
  • sorry to hear you have had to move under such unpleasant cuircumstances - could womens aid help you, perhaps by advocating on your behalf to the housing association or OT? Or looking for any financial help for you to get a bath put in?

I would contact them and ask for their help - I think if you have IBD and find maintaining a good level of personal hygeine (as well as pain relief) is helped by having a bath to use there is a chance you may be able to get some financial help from somewhere...

    good luck x

lol I was thinking of a tin bath! I know you prefer a bath but a shower with poor flow isn't great. At least if you had a good flow on the shower it will tide you over until you are in the position to move or get a bath installed.
