Ibuyeco being crafty with renewal quote

Hi everyone,
I'm currently insured with Ibuyeco car insurance and have just had my renewal quote.
Last year I paid about £550 to be insured fully comp with them. My renewal quote from them is £780!! I have an extra year of no claims with them so I can't understand why it has gone up?
The man on the phone wasn't very helpful so I went on the website to get my own quote, but it wouldn't let me as I was an existing customer.
So I got a new customer quote, changing my surname and putting my birthday a day earlier but leaving everything else exactly the same - the new customer quote they have given me is £420.
How can they justify this? Quoting me £780 when it should be £420? I am not going to accept their renewal quote (obviously) but was wondering whether it is worth phoning them to ask about this?
Yesinsurance have quoted me £320 so I will probably go with them...but perhaps I could be cheeky and ask Ibuyeco to beat that?
I know I would get my answer straight away from phoning them but I'm not very confident on the phone and they're so pushy and tricky I don't know what I'll end up agreeing to?
Thanks for your help

If this year was your first year of being with Ibuyeco you most likely got a new customer discount when you joined them. As you have found out when re-quoting they offer these to get you to join them.
We change co's pretty much every year and renewals always go up because of the new customer discount we first had. By shopping around I always get a better deal every year. Our insurances keep getting cheaper and cheaper.
Also co's hope that customers won't bother shopping around and just accept the renewal quote. It amazes me how many people do this.
You could ask Ibuyeco to match the cheapest quote you have had, no harm in asking.
Check over the Yes insurance quote to make sure they haven't ramped up the excesses to get a cheap quote.
Also make sure Ibuyeco don't auto renew. You may have to call them to tell them you don't want to renew with them.
HTH:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
do the same (verbally) as you've already done, on their site. then confront them (or go elsewhere).
Don't all Companies try this renewal con, on ?!0 -
Thanks for your replies :-)
I'm going to phone ibuyeco to tell them I don't want to renew with them. Hopefully they'll ask why so I can explain and perhaps they'll offer me a deal to make me stay?
It amazes me how cheeky insurance companies are! I'm glad I've looked into it and not just accepted the renewal quote. What a rip off.
Thanks for the advice about the excess being ramped up, I didn't think of that0 -
For someone like you who shops around each year it works in your favour as your premiums are subsidised by the people who just renew each year0
