Ressurrect old laptops

Options
I thought I'd share a tip that may be useful to someone.

I had an old laptop (32mb ram 333Mhz) that because of the requirements of newer software was virtually unusable when running windows 98

I heard that some slimline versions of linux ran better on old machines and installed 'Damn Small Linix' to try it.

DSL includes a spreadsheet, wordprocessor and web browser and runs on my laptop as quickly as my more modern windows xp equipped 2ghz 500 mb machine.

So unless you need more sophisticated software this could be an option for someone.

Wireless compatability is also available whereas I don't think its an option on windows 98(not SE)

There are other slimline versions including 'puppy linux'

and all free.

Hope this helps
ian

you will need to remember that NO windows programme will work with linux, but it would way of getting a basic word processor/internet access
