Hiya all,

I currently live in a rented furnished house and i'm due to move house in a few weeks time. The end of the bed (which was there when we moved in) has broken and I just wondered if someone could help with ideas on how to fix it as obviously this will need to be done before I leave the house.

The bar at the end of the bed is made of metal in the shape of upside down T. Basically where the bars meet has snapped. The bars are only 1cm thick. I am at a total loss of how to fix this.

I hope i've explained it ok,
Any help would be most appriciated!!

Will you have to pay for the damage? If so offer to buy a bed and just go to somewhere like Argos and buy a cheapish bed frame.

You can pick up bed frames for as little as £78 at Argos. Sorry I can't help otherwise.

The damage is bearly noticable although the landlord has our bond and I don't want him to take the money that way, I would much rather sort it ourselves.

I was hoping not to have to spend quite so much though,

    Thanks for your reply,

If the metal is tubular i.e. hollow then you may be able to insert something like a copper pipe to span the break.

The copper pipe is good because it is soft and can be mounded (i.e. hit with a hammer) to give a nice tight fit. If loose then it can be packed out with cardboard / wadding.

This will give you a strong simple join. Bodge job would be to use a cereal box instead of pipe :-)

use some blue tack to fill the gap and paint over it ?

    ^ only joking

But some metal epoxy putty should do the job :-)
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

I guess epoxy putty can be purchased in any handyman’s store. If so make sure you tell the sales assistant what it's for. A good handyman’s store should be able to help. I'd avoid places like B&Q as they might not be able to help.

Thank you so much for your replies.

They are hollow pipes which is good but they are so long i'm worried about being able to put the putty in and having to fill the full pipe with it.

    I'll have a look,

Thanks again you may have just saved me a fortune!!

Does the joint that broke carry much weight?
