Hi guys
I have just switched from BT to sky. New router is working and some signal is getting through but can't get the laptop to "see" that there's a connection and use it. everything looks fine until I go to repair the connection and I get an error stating that the DNS Cache cannot be cleared-any ideas? All equipment seems to be working fine otherwise
thanks in advance

I presume you are connecting to it wirelessly? Have you checked you are connected properly, have you got an IP address from the router?0

You didn't specify your OS, but if it's XP, go Run, cmd, then enter 'ipconfig /flushdns' (without the quotes).
That will clear the cache.
Are you connecting by ethernet or wireless though? No free lunch, and no free laptop

What router are you using? I had a problem with a Sagem router not connecting wirelessly. I contacted sky who talked me through some really simply steps that I had already gone through but it didnt work, so the chap said he would send out another router but when that arrived the same problem. in the end i forun a website to hack the sky router for U/N and P/W and now I ues my old netgear router and its great.:rotfl:
I'll have a poke around for the web address i used and post when I find it.
Hope this helps

Hi guys I have tried both wireless and ethernet connection. In theory the ethernet connection appears to be fine but no webpages will load. Bloke at sky (3 hours of phone calls later!) reckoned it was old BT software stopping the router and laptop connecting and helpfully told me to take it to "Someone who knew what they were doing"....
It's the sagem router I'm using-which the laptop recognises by the looks of it.
It's XP operating system, service pack 3.
thanks for the quick replies all

Thats the problem right there. When I spoke to sky the chappies admitted that they had problems with conflicts with the Sagem router.
HAve you got a router from old supplier that you can set up?
https://www.cm9.net/skypass/ web address for u/n and p/w for sky routers0 -
First you need to flush the cache. then establish if your PC can see the router (have you pinged it?). Then worry about the WAN connection later.
Certainly a good idea to remove the old BT software before you install anthing new.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'll have a go at everything you've suggested when I get home and let you know how I get on!

hmm just done a bit more googling and sounds like lots of people have had this problem! (and found sky to be totally useless in the help department)Remember to always be yourself-unless you suck. Joss Whedon0

phew all sorted! tried pinging both the IP and here and both worked, flushed DNS and still nothing doing. rang back and argued with someone from sky in hongkong and made them put me back through to technical support. I actually got someone who knew a bit about computers this time and immediately told me that the problem would be with McAfee-the program installed by the Sky broadband installation cd! sure enough, removed that and it worked immediately
