Not going well first direct application

We have been meaning to set up a first direct account for many years now but as we are looking for a joint bank account as we have just got married so we finally got around to applying last week. We got our paperwork signed it and popped it into the post.

I have been reading some posts on here about first direct applications and a few people said they did a casual call to check that their application forms had arrived a day or two later and got told the result of their application then and there. So two days after posting the forms I got OH to call them to ask if it had arrived. Blimey did he get told off! We have been told not to call them again - they will call us and that a note had been put on our record that we had called and been told not to call again. Poor OH had his head chewed off by the first direct woman and all we wanted to find out was had the paperwork arrived! (ok so we were hoping for a decision really!) Not the warmest welcome to their wonderful customer service I hear so much about if we do manage to get the account! Something is telling me that the application will be denied!

I've always found First Direct to be very courteous when I've rung up. Also I never have to wait long to be answered and it's always a UK agent.

Same here, very surprised. They have generally given the best telephone service you could wish for. Someone must have been having a really bad day!

I know they are supposed to be good. My parents have banked with them since they opened and have never had a problem. I know all employees have bad days and are only human but the reaction we got is why I am thinking we are just hanging around waiting for the 'sorry' letter!
