Set Top Free View Box Recommendations...?

Options
Mine's given up the ghost.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I'm intrigued by the idea of combi free view wirh record facility.

Also, I have it in mind, probably eroniously, that some boxes will supply Free View to several TV's in the house.

Is this a figment of my imagination.

The best Freeview PVRs come from Humax, and Topfield.
You can usually drive multiple sets from one freeview box but you would be watching the same channel on each.

My vote is for the Humax 9300T. Had it a couple of months and very pleased with it.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I have the Humax PVR-9150T. It will do the same as the 9300T, except the 9300 will store nearly 200 hours of TV and has a upscaled HD output rather than SCART. The Humax PVR-9150T can record up to 100 hours of television, has "series link" so will record a whole series at the press of a button from its guide/menu. It can pause & rewind TV.
I am very pleased with mine and would not be without one now, you can grab the TV you like, almost effortlessly, and watch it as and when you want.
£119.95 from the Richer Sounds website and a 5 year guarantee for 10% extra and your money back if you do not claim. Humax guarantee it for 2 years anyway.

They are near enough silent now the software has been updated and really change the way you watch TV. You can even record two different channels whilst playing back something you have previously recorded.

Thanks to all. Especially the last one. Think I'll go for it.
  • Since I retuned my set-top box as per Virgin 1's advice I cannot get Virgin 1, except for occasional flashes, as it has now become a UHF 23 channel. If you haven't retuned; DON'T! or you too may lose Star Trek, which keeps the children amused. Can anyone advise me on how I can get it back please?:confused::confused:

Maybe you need a new STB, or a new thread.
Virgin One is on EPG guide no 20, and is transmitted on Freeview Muliplex A, same as channel 5.
Don't know what you mean by UHF 23, you are not on cable perchance?

  • I'm not on cable, In Northern Ireland they won't lay 15 miles of cable into the countryside for one customer. Our freeview, what we can get of it( BBC reception is abysmal) comes through the ether and the branches of the trees from Black Mountain just above Belfast. UHF 23 is what it says on the bottom of the screen on the information panel when I press the I button. Every UHF23 station is unwatchable, every UHF29 station is poor depending on the weather. Virgin 1 didn't used to fall into this category, but now it's changed, is there any way I can get it back ?
I'm not willing to pay sattelite fees for Star Trek, I would rather feed my children.

Sounds like you are in a reception black spot, is it always this bad or does it get worse in the summer when the leaves grow?
I guess the only solution with Freeview to mount your aerial higher, or possibly a new one though that would be expensive.
The only other route would be Freesat from Sky, or Freesat (the BBC one). Both incur one off costs though.

This assumes you have an unrestricted view in a southerly direction for the dish.
