Ideas for family holiday in October

We have been having a difficult time recently and have very kindly been given £500 by my parents on the condition that we have a family holiday with the money.

My husband has to have holiday as decided by his work and is off on the 24th Oct to 1st Nov incl.

I am stuck for ideas on where we could go for that sort of budget at that time of year?

If we could find something HB or AI that would be good as spending money is going to be as little as possible.

We are in the midlands, so Birmingham or E Mids, or Liverpool Airport all within distance.

Not necessarily for a week, whatever we can get for the money is good.

Probably nice to escape the UK winter and find some sun if there is any?

Travel will be 2 adults and a 2 year old.

Any ideas very much appreciated!

Oh dear! That's half term week - its going to be quite hard for that sort of money. I couldn't come up with anything:confused:

Best I can suggest is to wait for a late bargain.

Hope someone else comes up with something more constructive. Most of Greece is closing down by then but Cyprus did come up with about 800 quid. Now that price could come down considerably nearer the time.

    Search done with Olympic holidays

Is there no chance of your DH getting another week or is it a factory shut down?

The prices might come down a bit more as you get nearer the time but they do tend to stay much higher over the half term week.

How about looking for accommodation in Spain with flights separate. Might work out more in your price range if last nights programme about the plight of the rental folks in the costas!

If you could get the week changed or swapped then just a week earlier would be between 150 and 200 per person cheaper

Why don't you try some DIY, ryanair (and others) have lots of cheap flights around your dates, mainly to spain and then booking some accom separate.
Try www.skyscanner.net to find cheap flights and then www.travelrepublic.co.uk to find accom, they do have AI comming up in mainland spain quite cheaply, you can also book flights/accom together with Travel Republic and they also give you options of booking transfers aswell, it may be cheaper to book everything separate though, just have a play around with dates/destinations and I'm sure you'll find something within your budget and dates.

The weather in Tunisia is lovely in October and November. You can usually find a good HB late deal if you book a couple of weeks before departure. The weather in Cyprus would also be good, but I found Cyprus to be quite expensive for food, drinks and taxis. The canaries and Morocoo is another option. Hope you find something within your budget. Good luck:D
  • Hi 500 is obviously not a great amount for a foreign holiday, But you could possibly get AI in Benidorm or SC in Majorca?

Cyprus would be too expensive I should think, I wouldn't recommend Tunisia (Personally) but that can also be in the equation?

I would stick with Spain & the Balearics, You should find something there?

    Good Luck.

BYALPHAINDIA, Tunisia is lovely. I've been there a couple of times and the weather is always good, people are friendly, it has amazing beaches, great hotels and it is inexpensive to eat out etc....plus you get to see another culture. I highly recommend sousse:D
  • Hiya, Thanks all. Unfortunately hubbys holiday cannot be changed, his next after this is 2 weeks at xmas then 2 weeks at easter. :o

I will have to have a look closer to the time then I think.

Ryanair is no good for us now since they introduced their ridiculous £40 check in fee as we would be travelling with a toddler + buggy so would have to check in at the airport.

I did have a quick look on easyjet but flights seem to be a lot that week (understandably! )

thomson do some cheap villas, not checked for those dates but worth looking. we did it last year in oct & then booked a flight via ryan air, still worked out cheaper than booking a holiday by £250 in total. Just a hassle doing the running around booking things.
