carla you can buy the wireless adpater from here
or you buy a ethernet cable from say amazon but id double check which type you would need as ive not used ethernet for ages with my 360, you also need 1 of these, the subscription i linked to is a 3 month subscription but you cna get them in 1 month, 3 moths and 12 month denominations0 -
you don't always need the wireless adaptor. if its near a wireless router, just run an ethernet cable from the back of the xbox to the router0

i was just about to add that bit to my post,0 -
As people above has said, you don't have to do it via wireless. We have our Xbox360 plugged into our router with an ethernet cable. So that is the 360 connected to the internet.
Now you have done that, your son will be able to access Xbox live as a 'silver' user. This is free membership, which offers some benefits.
However, to play games with other people over the internet on the 360, you will need to buy Gold membership. It currently costs around £40 for a year's subscription. Or £4.99 a month. This can be bought via the Xbox, from online retailers or from a shop.
Details of the different membership levels are here:

i wouldnt enter card details on the xbox console though, yes it may be easier to get a subscription but if it were to get stolen then the culprit could spend you money on game add ons, microsoft points etc, dont worry though xbox live is perfectly safe to use0 -
if you try and sign up via your console after saying its £3 a month it offers the first month for £1 at the moment. may be worth trying to see if he uses it.0

As DCFC says, you'll get 1 months free Xbox Live just for signing up.
If he does like it, you don't need to pay £40 for a years subs. A quick Google gives you plenty of sites that offer 12 months for around £30.
I got my son a 13 month subscription for £28.99, though it seems the prices have crept up a bit.Dave. :wave:0 -
You can also connect to Live using an Ethernet cable connected to a laptop or PC and sharing the Internet connection if the xbox is nowhere near the router. There are guides available through google to help.
Also, cheapest I've seen Gold memberships at the mo is 27.99 for a year at instantlivecodes.com. They'll email you the code as soon as you pay. Not sure if you get the extra month though (i.e. 13 for price of 12).0 -
thanks very much everyone, you've helped me a lot, just to let you know, my router is downstairs, and the console is in my sons bedroom upstairs, i'll let you know how i get on, thanks againwins so far:- absolutely nothing, not even an arguement:mad:0
