Cheese and eggs

  • hi,
    we make this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9018/cheese-bacon-and-onion-puff
as its mostly batter mix with any bits you fancy thrown in, it makes a brilliant flan/quiche/pie thing that is great with salad, or chips or anything really!
we have it for dinner then chop the rest up for lunch boxes, it tastes even better cold the next day (if thats possible)

i throw in anything ive got knocking around in the fridge, mushrooms, ham, different cheeses etc
its bloody lovely! and as most people have batter mix ingredients in the cupboards already, its much cheapness!

    enjoy!
  • I remember making a curry at school with hard boiled eggs - it was lovely, must see if I can find a recipe! ooh here are some...

  • infact this thread has just reminded me one of the school dinner options at my primary school was a big scoop of grated cheese with a cut in half hard boiled egg in it...!!!

I remember liking it, but what a strange meal...
can you imagine serving it up for dinner? a plate of grated cheddar and an egg! lol

I made a savoury bread and butter pudding this week that went down very well with all who ate it . Great if you have any stale bread to use up as well .
  • I make a spanish omlette quite often to use up left over boiled potatoes and eggs. You can throw in any veg you have got, peppers, mushrooms etc. V useful for using up veg so it doesn't go to waste.

our favorourite cheap tea is a (cheap) carton of cottage cheese, 200g cheap cheese (grated yourself), and 3 eggs. You mix it together in an ovenproof dish and cook it in the oven with some baked potatoes (for about 50 minutes) - it's really nice
It will be mine in 2009: 1. MacBook, 2. Spa session, 3. Money/vouchers

Freebies this week - computer software, nivea for me AND him, and about a million sims ;)

This was very often the veggie option for school dinners at my primary school! I vividly remember it being served up with the accompaniments of a roast dinner, gravy and all! Weren't the 80's great?!

An old favourite: prepare some hard boiled eggs, cut them in half. Make up a white sauce, but start off with frying off an onion and add a little curry powder before you add the flour and milk. You end up with a creamy curry sauce. Pour over the egg halves, heat it all together and serve over rice.

If you can make shortcrust pastry, then quiches can be really cheap. I make cheese and onion quiches (individual ones because I have the baking tins) quite regularly. If you can't, or don't want to, make pastry, then you can make a crustless quiche.

    I love homemade quiche:drool:
