Epson Stylus R220 Inkjet Printer

I have an Epson Stylus R220 Inkjet Printer and I bought a set of compatible cartridges for it. When I installed them I got an error message that the ink cartridges cannot be recognised. I contacted the supplier and he suggested that I only install one cartridge at a time which I did, took ages, and managed to print from the printer. However when I switched the printer on the next day I got the message again. I contacted the supplier again and he said that my printer will only work with genuine cartridges and I could send them back for a refund.
Before I send them back does anyone know of a way to get my printer to print with unrecognised cartridges, as genuine cartridges cost a fortune?
Thanks, Rob

I use an R220 and the messages I do get when I use compatibles go on the line of: "This isn't a genuine Epson cartridge - do you really want to use it?" I click that (of course) I do and never have a problem. I don't know if it is the particular compatibles you have but I use Pro-Jet and they are fine (£3.90 for a set of 6 from UKDVDR).
This free software may be helpful in overriding your problem: http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml0 -
Well I got another set of cartridges from another supplier and they worked straight out of the box so the first lot must have been faulty. Have you ever tried a cartridge resetter on your old original cartridges and refilled them or have you just bought compatibles?

I have always bought the cheapest set of cartridges I could find on eBay (typically £5 per set) and have never encountered a "not recognised" message from this printer. I've used a whole variety of unbranded cartridges with no adverse results.
Perhaps try an alternative set of compatibles and return the troublesome set if problem is resolved.0 -
Never used a resetter; have always used compatibles. I've used dozens and have had only a couple of faulty ones; they are so cheap, I just throw the faulty ones away.Robert2009 wrote: »Have you ever tried a cartridge resetter on your old original cartridges and refilled them or have you just bought compatibles?0 -
