Internet not working!!!

My internet is not working. Al relevant lights and connections etc are on and my son's laptop is still working which comes from the same connection. Rang Orange and they asked me to do some checks and told me that it is accepting IP addresses by numbers but not words and to contact the computer manufacturer. Am just wondering if there is anything else I can try myself before I take it somewhere and are charged for something that I could maybe fix myself. I am not a computer whizz although I do know some basics so would appreciate any answers in plain english please.

How do you connect via a cable or wirelessly, if you go to control panel, network connections what does it display?

The PC is connectedwith a cable and the laptop is wirelessly. Have tried turning the computer off and then on again and have also unplugged my livebox and left it for several minutes before trying again. Everything says network connected,my relevant lights are on on my livebox and I have a phone that I can use through my internet and that is working too. When rang them he gave me a string of numbers which then fetched up a web page but it went off again once words were typed in.If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................

Try this
go to network connections, right click on Local Area Connection, click on status, click on support tab, click repair.
Hope this helps!

What sort of ridiculous reply from Orange is that!!
My guess is that Orange is temporarily down,0 -
well if it is it has been down now for 3 days and wouldn't explain why son's laptop is still working from same connection. Would be made up if Orange being down was te case as then I could get it back and save my money for repair!!If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................
