Now connected but what caused the fault?

When I turned on my laptop tonight there was no connection. I checked everything but then assumed it was AOL that had a problem. The battery had not been in use for a couple of weeks but I cannot see how this would affect connection. I put it in and did a System restore and I am now connected. Can anyone tell me if this is just coincidence or did the steps I took get me back on line?

It's possible that a system restore could have reset your connection settings in the system registry... However, with AOL being as great as they are, i'd be more inclined to lay the blame on their side.

On the subject of AOL, does anyone know if their software still prevents you from switching ISPs without a full Windows reinstall?
I've not come across the problem since the 56k dialup days.

Assuming you are using wireless connection, you could have had an old ip address seesion going and closed down (not shut off completely) , then a new start up has tried to acquire a new IP but the router still considers you logged in on the old one - all assuming of course you are not using static ip addresses.
