Personalised Number Plate - Insurance Question?

We wanted to buy my daughter an unusual birthday present for her 21st birthday and so found her a pretty OK personalised number plate for £245 drom DVLA's website (Yes, not all that moneysaving, as I have seen people mention in other threads on number plates).

Anyway, it's bought and she loves it. The V750 certificate of entitlement came today and we know she has to go to our local DVLA office with her documents but we haven't found any information about informing her insurance company and when to do it. Her insurance is due for renewal on July 12th and is also thinking of changing companies unless the renewal fee is less than the quote she got from the new company.

She's keen to have the new numberplate fitted but (and here's the moneysaving bit) she doesn't want to pay an avoidable admin fee from her current insurance company.

Can anyone give us any useful information about this?

Thanks in advance.

Didn't make any difference to my insurer. All they did was issue me with a cover note and a new Certificate of Insurance a day or two later. No hassle at all and no admin charge Easiest answer is to just ask the insurer what they do and if there is a charge.
  • There is no way around this apart from waiting until she changes her insurance before going to the DVLA office and getting the plates changed over.

Thanks to you both. I'll get her to ring her insurance company tomorrow. Thanks for not telling me it was a waste of money too. It was pretty hard thinking of something for her birthday that was special but not 'too expensive'. We didn't think £245 all-in was too bad.

I can't remember being charged for it either when I did mine. In fact H did his recently (he forgot to tell them!) and there was no charge.
