Speaqker / computer audio problem.

I have a problem,
my new compueter (about 2/3 months old) has stopped playing music. the speakers are just as new, and it was fine last night.
i have checked the connections, and they seem to be fine. i have tried my ipod headphones in the jack thing at the front, and that seems also not to be working.... does this mean it is a problem with the computer itself?
if there is anything that i need to try feel free to call me a luddite, and many thanks for any/all help.

It may be too obvious a thing to check, but have you muted the sound?Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

didn't even realise i had a mute button on the keyboard...
thank you so much i was seriously thinking i'd have to take the thing apart (which seens as i'm clearly blonde it clearly would have made things even worse!!!!)
