Is this correct????

Is this right or what??? My OH has just read in the Daily Mail, page 10 a boy of 17 yrs old is receiving £90 on the dole every week. My OH has lost his job via redundancy, got a job classed as self employed which did not work out. Can only claim £64.30 each week, called Employment and Support Allowance, he does have a sick note . We have a mortgage, bills to pay. We are both 54 yrs old and have paid NI for over 30 ys how can this be right.

Has anyone got any advice on this subject please?

No not £90 a week, maybe about £100 a fortnight depending on the circumstances for JSA.

    Hi Healy

No it says in the paper that £90 drops through his letter box every week. That's what I said, it was probably a fortnight. He is living rent free at his fathers council flat in Kings Cross.

You cannot rely on what the papers say, they often make mistakes as far as facts and figures go.

Why do people take newspapers at face value? Especially a story about benefits in the DM!

It is probably £90 a fortnight as Jobseekers' Allowance is paid every two weeks and the rate is less for £17-year-olds.

Also it doesn't normally 'drop through the letterbox' these days, but gets paid into a bank account..

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

And there must be more to it than this as 17 year olds can't normally claim JSA at all.
