Short wave is rapidly turning into a historical curiousity, now that all stations are replicated on Internet Radio, if it's content you are interested in.
I remember owning one of these http://www.mwcircle.org/res-receiver-lowehf150.htm in the early 1990s (all British excellent design).

if your plan was to explore radio stations from all around the world, there are some very nice Internet radios out there. All you need is to have wireless broadband in the house. Tuning is easy as you can explore by country, genre and station name.
For example the PURE EVOKE-FLOW at Richer Sounds in-store, £120
