Bank account charge advice

Hi people, just a little advice if you will.
I have a 2nd bank account, that i simply use for putting money into and then paying for things over the internet so it doesnt get confusing in my current account.
I went into my local branch on Friday the 17th April and paid around 300 quid in. I then went home, checked my online banking to make sure it had got there and paid for something over the net.
Three days later a recieved a letter from barclays saying that as i had gone into my reserve amount ( barclays way of saying an unauthorised overdraft ) they were going to charge me £22 for it. I went to see the bank manager and she said that there was nothing she could do.
Basically she said that as i put the money in to my account after 4pm, it will show on the next working day as available which would be monday and as i paid the money out on friday i was in a negative ballance until the monday.
I tried to explain to her that its all well and good saying that, but it was showing online as being available before i paid it out so how could they charge me?
Now lucky for me i had a print out showing my online banking statement which clearly shows the transaction order was the money being put in, and then taken out but it made no difference.
Now my points are :-
1.) If the cut off for banking is 4pm, shouldnt the cashier have told me that it would not be available until Monday ?
2.) If it wasnt available until Monday on there system, then why does it show instantly on the online banking ?
3.) Is it not a lot to ask, that in this day and age, the counter based system and the online system match up? It would not of been a problem if the online side had not of shown the amount as available until the Monday like they are saying was correct ?
Now i really am not bothered about the £22, bit its the principle of the thing thats getting me wound up.
Do you think i should try and take it further ?
Cheers
Ricky

Branches have notices on their Information boards about their branch cut-off times.
Because it's still a receipt, whether it's available or not - the same reason a cheque shows before it's cleared.2.) If it wasnt available until Monday on there system, then why does it show instantly on the online banking ?
Branches won't refund charges unless it's bank error or fraud, so you're not going to get any luck out of them. That said, you could try calling Customer Relations and explaining it was cash deposited; they might then consider a refund. Telephone number is 020 7116 7488.3.) If i could prove that they didnt ( and i know they dont as i popped in there today ) would this help me ?

A cheque may show before its cleared, but i cant draw on it for a few days can i ? Surely if the money was showing in my account but i couldnt use it then there should of been some sort of note on the screen ?

I will try and call that number, and see what they say.
Thanks for the advice !

Barclays must use some really old systems if it can't clear cash after being deposited after 4pm... Glad I don't bank with them!
