It seems to be an issue that I have read about alot on the internet, however Im still not sure where to turn as I may now be in alot more trouble. I have moved into flats which have their own car park, however a private parking company took over the car park(which was before we moved in, and our landlord said that she was not initially aware of it). The car park 'HAD' a sign stating, 'by parking here you are entering into a contract with us and you have agreed to pay us £85', however the sign has been removed from our car park, but is still in the one next door??!! anyway, I have taken everyones advise not to pay up. However, now the fine is up to £185 and I have had debt collectors and now a solicitors letters stating that if I dont pay I will be taken to court and that it will affect my credit rating for the next 5 years.
I have been to the citizens advise bureau who told me to just pay it, but i cannot afford to?! My landlord hasnt been much help, as she was the one who told me not to pay in the first place and that she would stick up for me if I had any letters, but now seems to be backing out. Will it really affect my credit rating and can they take me to court???

If you have read a lot about it on the internet, then you will be aware that you have not been fined.

Citizen's Advice Bureau (with the greatest of respect) don't know their ar5e from their elbow when it comes to this kind of thing, and they are talking rubbish.

File it away and ignore it.

Yes, they CAN take you to court, but unless you fail to defend the case properly, they will not get a judgment against you.

And if they did get a judgment against you, you would have to fail to pay it for it to affect your credit rating.

Now, go and do some more reading about the private parking scam, and tell all of your friends and family about it.

A "Fine" from a PPC has no basis.

They are trying to scare you into paying. And as for the CAB - they are fools.

By turning £85 into £185, they have shot their bolt. They will never go to court over this.

    Ignore the chancers!
