Hi, I recently purchased an item from a chat forum i am a member of costing £65. The seller sent it 2nd class recorded delivery and I didnt receive it so she checked with the post office and it was signed for by someone-not me or anyone at my address. I checked today with someone with a similar address and after a lot of asking questions he finally admitted he received it and signed for it-opened it and said it was "just an old sheet"-it was an expensive woven wrap to carry my baby but he obviously didnt realise that-so he threw it away. Never mind it was addressed to me at a different address. So, the postman had delivered it to the wrong address-I have checked with the seller and she def posted it to the correct address. She is filling a claim form but I will only be entitled to up to £39 compensation. Does anyone think I should take it further with royalmail or is that likely to be all i will get even though it was clearly their mistake?

The seller should refund you what you paid and then claim compensation for herself. It's not your fault she sent it as cheaply as possible, and declined an adequate compensation level.0

Are there any consumer laws on this i can back myself up with otherwise its just my word against hers? mind you, its a friendly mother forum and would hate to get on wrong side of people-although cant afford to throw that sort of money away!0

I'd be more annoyed at the guy who opened it....doesn't he know it's illegal to open someone elses mail? and especially considering this wasn't addressed to him or had his name on it! Imagine if he had thought it was worth something! He would have kept it the cheeky git!0

I am furious with him, lives at dodgy flats opposite us tho so dont want any neighbourly wars! yes he was def trying to nick it!0

If it was a private sale then it's not really covered by anything, if the poster was running a business which you bought through then you have the usual stuff.really? Royal Mail compensation is definitely claimed by the sender though, you'll get a form through the post from them asking if you have contacted the sender about it, and if you have received the package.0 -
well it is illegal to open another persons post
so you could try something along that route?Back by no demand whatsoever.0
