Hope someone can help.

My Hp laptop dvd drive will not see the cd's , i have a mate who has the same model laptop its a NX9020, which he has kindly donated to me (although its dead) but he said the cd drive works.

How on earth does it come out , does anyone know ?

Thanks in advance.

Usually a few screws underneath the drive and then the drive will just slide out.

On Lenovo it's just a little lever you flick and it comes out.

On the HP it's probably 3 screws holding the drive in. Turn the machine on open the drive then turn it off remove the battery (just in case) look for the obvious screws they will be directly under the drive, remove them and then give the drive a gentle tug using the tray to pull it and it should just come out nice and easily

me thinking i should have took it to PC World .

I have took all the screws out and yanked the drive.

Big mistake , i ripped it in half.

Good job it is broken LOL.

I might as well take it all apart now and see what happens.

    Thanks anyway

They would have done a lot worse probably...don't even think about taking it there. Get yourself a drive off eBay and fit it yourself.

Go to the HP website and download the manual. That shoud explain how to remove the drive.
I would be very surprised if you had to remove the keyboard first.
Maybe whatever is broken is preventing it from releasing.

My own little bit of advice - take it to a specialist to fix it rather than do any more lasting damage.

You probably need to reverse dismantle until you reach the fault.
A cable that wasnt pushed in hard enough is my guess or even maybe forgotten completely.
