INternational cheques I know can be claimed for months after, normally fraudulent ones if this occurs anyway

The T&C for your a/c state that chqs can still be retnd unpaid for up to 4 working days from paying in, and any money cashed against later retnd items will be deemed as an informal request for an overdraft.

You withdrew the money and so are liable to pay it back to the bank upon their request. The person who wrote you the chqs still owes you the money, not your bank, and it is up to you to contact them. Your bank should be returning the unpaid chqs to you.

I'm guessing by the speed in with which you withdrew the money you might have thought the cheques may bounce, is that right?

no it was paid to me via ebay sale of a item, i always withdra cheques day they clear. never had one bouce before. i dont sent items you see until i have the money in my hand.

I didn't think anyone was still running this old scam? I thought most had moved on to a slightly more modern 419 scam instead.

I doubt there is much that cna be done here, you have been well and truly done, but there might be something that you can do if only to make you feel a bit better and to warn other sellers..ask over on the ebay forum, don't post the item number though unless you are happy for your own account to be identified (and I always suggest this is not a good idea)

Alternatively pm me or one of the other regulars with the item number so we can take a look, and anonymise the response we make so as not to identify your account.
