Outside Garden Tap fitting

Options
I recently replaced my garden tap, as the old one was leaking. The new one will not tighten any further than 90 degrees from vertical (pointing down). I used plumbing tape, but even if I apply more it still only goes to the same position. Does anyone have any idea of how I can resolve this?

So you're saying you can only rotate the tap in to the fitting mounted on the wall by 90o before its tight - but leaks? Sounds like the wall plate is a different size/angle of thread? Perhaps that needs replacing too for something more modern.

Thanks ic. Perhaps I'll have to get a new wall plate as well. The tap was bought as a single item, so I think you might be right. No it doesnt leak though.

Thanks andrew-b. tried putting on less and more, and without, but got the same result each time. I think ic is probably right, that I should get a new wall mount.

Put standard silicon on the thread. Tighten the tap to desired position. Allow 24 hours for silicon to cure and you should be fine.

hi try putting 15 full wraps of ptfe on the thread and screw right in but not past the last full turn were the tap goes wonky try screwing it in first dry without the tape just to be sure how many turns it will take that should do it a would refrain from using silicone as this is called bodging in the plumbing industry lol but it proberbly would work lol

Not bodging, quite normal practice under these circumstances.....;)
