Looking at the possibilities of getting a rail pass for 2 weeks so me and friend can go round poland, slovakia and hungary in late august.
was going to buy a rail pass for £145 - 16 days in all the above countries.
But how cheap are one off tickets? is it just as well paying per journey!?
Also - any advice about where to go in poland? if its a bit off the beaten track thats fine.
going to fly on wizz air to warsaw or gdansk, is that airline much kop? never been with em b4!?
thanks all

A place between Gdansk and Gdynia called Sopot is nice, on the coast.

It depends how many trips you plan to do. We took the train from Brno to Strba (about 5 hours, 400km) and it was less than £20 return for 2nd class. The sleeper would have been an extra £20 each way. What goes around - comes around0 -
thanks,
sopot looks great, just right for the gf's b;day.
as for the train, thats about what i thought, sounds good.0 -
Wizz air are fine. Flown with them twice and they boast a brand, spanking new fleet of aircraft. Only downside is if there are any technical delays then this can grow into a rather length delay as they don't have much of a backup fleet.
If you're going to Poland then you must, MUST go to Krakow. I know it's a fair distance from Gdansk but missing it would be like going to Italy and not visiting Rome.
The Tri-city area of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot are nice areas and it really depends if you want to explore the country or not.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
The south of Poland is wonderful. Krakow, already mentioned in this thread, is a must-see.
Nearby is the town of Oswieciem - better known to most people by its German name of Auschwitz. While a visit to a concentration camp isn't everyone's idea of something to do on holiday, it is something that I believe everyone should do at least once in their life. I went in 1990 and didn't regret it. I had nightmares for a few weeks afterwards but I for one will now do my damndest to make sure that what happened in that awful place doesn't happen again in my lifetime.
I would also recommend going to Zakopane - a wonderful and thoroughly unspoiled alpine resort. Hike up into the mountains, or take a horse & cart ride, to see Morskie Oko a lake trapped between mountain peaks that are so sharp and pointy it looks like a child drew them.

Sopot is nice, Gydinia not as nice but worth the visit, Gdansk again is worth the visit as the river / canal is nice and the small square. Krakow is a must, what a lovely town. Auswitcz is a must although like the other poster not a day out for everyone but you would regret it. Warsaw a day or two - but a lovely and quite square.
There are direct trains from Gydinia / Sopot / Gdansk to Krakow in the south via Warsaw. We paid £25 each for a one-way ticket in first class and the journey is 7 hours! Don't expect luxury though they use the old carriages with compartments in them seating 6 or 8 people in each compartment.
I have just returned from there and will put some more notes about Poland soon.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0
