Charged twice for gas!

Hi i went to check my mothers bills etc yesterday to find she pays her gas via a top up card at the post office to british gas, but she had a letter off n-power saying they supply her gas and sent a bill for a stupid amount. Anyway after many phone calls and being on hold for ages, both suppliers claimed they are supplying my mother with gas and neither would back down, so i rang british gas back (thats who's name is on her gas meter and who she pays for gas) and they said they would ring N-power and sort it out, eventually Bgas rang me back to say they cant understand why there charging my mother for gas but can assure they are supplying her with gas.
So neither will back down and she cant afford to pay for gas twice and if she doesnt pay she will end up down the default/debt route.
What should she do im out of ideas and sick of pulling my hair out on the phone to both gas companys passing the book
Thanks very much

Probably stating the obvious, but are both suppliers using the same meter serial number?0

Tell both companies you are going to complain to the energy ombudsman, then do just that. If neither supplier will admit fault, let them sort it out. You will find the contact details at the bottom of this page...clicky0 -
Check the Meter Point Reference Number and the meter serial number on both companies bills. Check if your Mother's meter is on either of these. Call BG and get them to tell you what xoserve ( the industry database) has against your Mother's address. This will then show where the problem is.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
