    Hi frankie,

We have an older thread with lots of scone recipes that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

These older threads may help too:

Years ago I worked at a place where there were delicious big fresh scones every day. The cook would put a jug of milk on the windowsill every evening to go sour. Apparently that is a foolproof way of making scones which rise.

I did hear that to make them rise straight up you should cut them out then place them upside down on the baking tray. I did that at the weekend, but it didn't make a difference!

I use a Rose Elliott recipe:-

    8oz flour
    2 tsp baking powder
    3 oz marg
    1 oz sugar
about 5 fl oz milk or water (or a mixture)

I've used self raising and plain flour for these and it works both times, but as the original recipe calls for brown flour I'm assuming that is must mean plain. I only use white flour though. It's supposed to make 10, but that must mean 10 small ones!

Does anyone have a basic recipe for scones. I know there is one with about 4 ingredients on here but I cant find it anywhere. Ive made them in the past and they were really simple to do.

    TIA Kacy
