Pay Per Click on Website

Options
Hi

I was just wondering if there is anyway of telling who has been clicking on your own website?

The reason I ask is that a relative set up a website a few months ago and for the first month or two his monthly bill for pay per click was £5. However, it has now gone up to £40 last month but has not had even one enquiry. He is wondering if maybe a competitor is just constantly clicking on his site each day or is that not possible, in so far as you are limited on how many times in one day you can click

Any comments gratefully received.

Sue

Not a direct answer to your question....

If people are clicking through but not making enquiries when they get there then maybe you are looking at the problem in the wrong way. It might not be a competitor, it may well be that the website just isn't compelling enough to make people want to enquire.

Is the website easy to navigate and is there enough info to make people stick around for more than just a few seconds?
Is the website accessible to people with disabilities? e.g. fonts that can be resized, sensible use of colours with good levels of contrast
Is it easy to see what is new since the previous visit?
Is there a clear privacy statement? i.e. if I submit an enquiry what will happen with my contact details?
Are there contact details for the company including address & telephone number?

I could go on, but I'm sure you get my point. Look at the website with a critical eye - or get someone else to do it (post the URL here and I will have a look if you want to) - then make suggestions to your relative on how the website can be improved.

Depends on where your website is hosted. Some hosts will give you some statistics on whoever has been browsing your website (ip address a.s.o.).

I must agree with Mike that it is more likely that the hits aren't being converted into transactions.

Can I suggest if you are still concerned with who is clicking onto your site that you post on the techie board and I'm sure somebody will be able do advise you further (it might be an idea to tell them who the webhost is as well)

U can see if a competitor always clicks, becuase they you will see a patten of the same ip ranges in your stats. Plus most PPC firms block the IP if an advert is clicked more than 1 times within 24 hours.

I use www.statcounter.com. Its a free tracker up to 100 hits or so, and if you want a bigger log then you can subscribe.

Its a really useful tool and I would highly recommend it.
