Hi all this is new for me but i always read the threads and i have to say i cannot understand why people are not using their local markets !! you will find especially with the fruit and veg stalls they have gone to the fruit market early that morning rather being stuck in giant supermarket hubs you are only paying for this mans wages not a conglomerate with boards of directors and shares to divi up....do the maths.. use your local markets it has been proved they are up to 25% cheaper

We only have a farmer's market once a month and it's really expensive! Mostl of the stalls are different meats - venison, specially smoked salmon etc, the veg is much more expensive than supermarkets. I do concede it might be nicer or fresher, it's not cheap and that's what this thread is about.
It's only a game

The market is 5 miles from where I work.
At 8am on my way to work only 1 stall is open.
At 6pm on my way home it's all closed.
I refuse to give up my saturday's to go food shopping as I feel I working all week I should be allowed time off - still have to cook at weekends though
So I shop near where I work, in my lunch hour. If I'm using my lunch hour then I often don't have time to get to several different shops so unfortunately the supermarket usually winsThough I do use a veg shop, and a turkish shop if I get time.

It really all depends on your market. our local farmers market would certainly not prove to be 25% cheaperSealed pot challenge 5430 -
If it is on national tv then it must be true.0

I do shop in local farmers market but its no where near as cheap as supermarkets. I would say if anything its 25% more expensive. The quality is much nicer which is why I dont mind paying the extra but its definately no good to people who are on a budget or really trying to save money (not the ones where I live anyway).:smileyhea0

Our local market is rubbish - its really one of those 'tat' markets; a day out for the local nutcases but attrociously bad prices for meat and veg...
However there is a greengrocer in town who is awesome, great prices and excellent quality.
However im moving away soon so will have to have a scout around and see if there are any good greengrocers/stalls around there.
All in all though, id recommend looking at your non-supermarket options - like greengrocers, stalls and markets, as they often do have better prices. Oh and float around the areas that have fruit and veg stalls near closing time if you're after some produce that needs using fast but will cost v little tooOn the up

The market is 12 miles away, so too far. The farmers market is every 2 weeks and only 4 miles away. Some of the veg is reasonable but I only buy chicken now and then as they are very big and cost around £22. Not really locally grown produce either0

We dont have a market here really. There's the occassional farmers market that's about twice the price of anything in the shops but other than that theres nothing..Sometimes.I.Wonder.Why.I'm.Still.Here..Sometimes.I.Think.I'm.Going.Crazy.0

There is a good market about 3 miles from my work every thursday - I used to work 300m from it and then I shopped there.
Unfortunately I have to go to work so I never catch opening hours.
Our local shops (goods looks like from the market) are soooooo expensive that there is no way that
a/ I am giving up my Saturday for shopping
b/ I am spending that amount of money0
