Windows Vista driving me mad!

I yesteday decided to shell out and buy a new computer which has Vista on it.

I've tried to put Microsoft Office 2000 and it just does not work properly. I use Outlook for my emailing and find he calendar really useful. I have decided to upgrade to the 2007 version which has been preinstalled as a trial on my PC. Does anyone know if Outlook is a feature? I cannot find it?

Also, I have a printer that is only 6 months old and I have tried to load the software but it stops half way through? It is driving me mad.

Any help, would be gratefully received.

cheers

Office 2000 does work with Vista... I'm afraid Outlook only comes with the Professional Plus, Standard and enterprise versions. You can always use a program called Thunderbird

As for the printer you need to look on the manuafactures website for Vista compatible drivers, or see if windows updates has up-to-date drivers for you.

Hi, First off Vista (which version do you have ?) is a fine OS, it will grow on you as you become more acustomed to it. Outlook is outdated and has been replaced with Windows Mail. Numerous faults with Outlook so move on now. Office 2008 is expensive, if you are an NHS employee, or work in a learning establishment / have kids in school then there are huge discounts available to you.

Printer, do not plug printer in, install the software / drivers from <manufacturer> CD rom. Following onscreen instructions. Printer is connected last, then Vista will find it.

Office 2000 is supported under Vista, but it's extended support only, i.e no more patches.
All edns of Office 2000 except Home & Student include Outlook. It may be on your system but not accessible on the trial version, when you got to upgrade it should tell you what edns you can upgrade to.
Printer problem-more info needed-what make/model? Are you trying to install the right drivers, eg the Vista ones?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Windows Live Mail has a calender that's very similar to the calender in Outlook 2007, and is available for free. Unless you require the advanced features of Outlook like Exchange, then it's going to be an expensive upgrade for little benefit over what's available gratis to you.

    If you do want Outlook your options are;

    1). Buy Office 2007 Home and Student (£64) and then Outlook 2007 (£74). Total = £137
    2) Buy Office 2007 Standard Edition Upgrade £165.
3). Try Windows Live Mail and try OpenOffice. Both free.

Obviously, depending on your necessity for Outlook will depend on what option suits you better.

Thanks for your reply. I have Vista Premium (I think). I'm looking for an email programme that I can have all my email addresses going through and which features a calendar. I've just downloaded Windows Live and have been trying to work out how to import my contacts from Outlook (2000 version) but I'm struggling a bit.

Thanks for the info. I only really use the calendar and emailing part of Outlook. I've purchased office 2007 today and am now just looking into email programmes and calendars and how to import all of my information into it from Outlook.

Thanks for your post. The printer is only 6 months old so I have the original disk which I have tried to load the software from but it stops half way through the installation. Need to look on the Brother website I think. Its the MFC -235C which has fax and scanner built in so I really need to software to use these features.

Right, you wil be pleased to know that I sorted my printer set up problem. I downloaded the software/update from the Brother website and that's all sorted now.

I have also managed to get Outlook 2000 on my pc now and it seems to be working with VISTA. I ran the compatibility wizard to get my software onto my computer and then managed to find the pst file (which incidentally would not come up when I did a search?) I then copied over the old pst file into the new location.

I need to start using something else though now that is a little more up to date. I really want an email program with integrated calendar which is preferably free.

    Any ideas?

(Thanks for all you replies, very much appreciated)
