Hello,

Car insurance is due for renewal next month. The existing insurance broker (Swinton) have quoted a price that is a bit lower than last year's premium.

This was the first time I have had insurance in my own name as for the last 16 years I have been driving company cars.

In the year before this current one I had no accidents/claims and none with the employer I was with for two years previously.

I have not had an accident in the last 5 or 6 years that I can remember, possibly longer, but this involves at least another 2 companies that I worked for.

Are there any good brokers/insurers who will take this into consideration or am I better off sticking with Swinton?

Having tried a couple of comparison sites I am being quoted between 125 and 200% of LAST year's premium!

Thanks......

In my experience the vast majority of brokers are better than Swintons, pop into a local broker and give them a whirl.

P.S You will find if you get a cheaper quote and contact Swintons they will suddenly be able to offer you a better quote. To amuse yourself give them a ring and ask them is the original price the best they can offer you and they will say yes.

They have probably put you with MMA Insurance who are not a great Insurer, if you get a chance try and get transferred to a decent company. Swintons will tell you they are a great Insurer which may be connected to the fact they are owned by MMA...

    Renewal forms came today.

This year and last year they are proposing HSBC Corinthian.

I tried HSBC for a quote via my online banking page and they came back double....

Pedro, what makes you recommend Utmost? They appear to be a website that just introduces the business to a different broker depending on the type of business.

    Do you use them yourself

Well you know me dacouch, well sort of, and my distrust of IC's, through personal experience etc etc and I don’t say this lightly.

Utmost are concerned about giving value for money and being fair/honest, they have been very supportive.

Yes we use them for both golfing and junior football cover, and they look after us to a small but appreciated degree.

They have their own loss adjusters that don’t skank commission and their own claim settlers, solicitors that provide a full service.

They involve Brokers in their cover and ensure the correct tool for the job, so to speak.

Also you talk to a person, not a machine to help guide you through the Insurance minefield.

I assume they are not always the cheapest but there abouts, but your happy to pay for the quality of service, knowledge and local presence.

Its nice to know that there is an Insurance Business that meets Pedros approval, there are quite a few similar businesses around, thank goodness

I hope for their sakes they never charge Pedro £25 for changing your address.
