Cheapest way to get from Euston to Heathrow Terminal 5?

Hi,
Any suggestions? Need to get from Euston to T5 on the 25th July...
I tried looking at the train fares but they weren't listed (which is worrying). Is it best to get an Oyster card even though we don't live in London?

The train goes from Paddington station to Heathrow and is known as the UK's most expensive train journey, last time I travelled on it it was £14 each way, but it only takes about 15 minutes. I'm not sure where the station at Heathrow is in relation to terminal 5 either I'm afraid, it's a while since I went on the train and terminal 5 hadn't been finished then.
The cheapest way that I know of is the tube, but it takes about an hour, however it will drop you at Terminal 5. The price is £4 cash or if you use an oyster card £2.20 for travel on 25th July.
You can get more info on the London Transport website www.tfl.gov.uk
There is a travel planner on there that will give you the details of your journey, and will detail any line changes you will need to make. As you're travelling from Euston I know you will need to make at least one change to get on to the picadilly line that goes to Heathrow.0 -
Hello,
There are a million different ways depending on how comfortable you are jumping on and off london Transport.
The website https://www.tfl.gov.uk is a good start.
It depends what time of day you're travelling, you can either walk to Euston Square Station (200m from Euston) and get a train to Paddington then the Heathrow express from there. Or you could jump on the underground at Euston (which is victoria line) change at Green Park onto Piccadilly line and then go all the way to T5 that way but I'm not sure how long it takes.
Oyster card will save you money but there is a £3 deposit for each card. As long as that is refunded when you return the card then yes it is definitely worth it.
Hope that helps. :-)oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!0 -

Not the slightest point in getting a one day travelcard (£7.50) for a single journey that will cost £4, or £2.20 (plus £3 refundable deposit) with an Oyster card.0 -
Agree that the tube is the least expensive option, and given that you're starting at Eustone probably the easiest even if it may take a bit longer than getting to Paddington for the Heathrow Express.
one word of warning if you go via Piccadilly line tube...make sure you get on a train going to Heathrow! sounds simple, yes...I live in London and take the tube almost every day...yet when I hopped on the Piccadilly Line (which I rarely use) at Finsbury Park, it hadn't even occurred to me that the line splits - so some trains don't go to Heathrow...which meant getting off when I realised my error at the point the train switched to the other branch, switching platforms - up, over, down (with 2 cases), going back one stop, switching platforms (again with 2 cases) and getting on the correct train.
One other thing - the change from the Victoria Line to Piccadilly Line at Green Park is a bit of a bear (there is a shortcut but I can never remember it)...not too bad if you don't have any cases, but if you do, going north from Euston on the Victoria Line to Finsbury Park and getting the Piccadilly Line from there might make more sense - it's just a walk through change at Finsbury. It will lengthen the journey on the Piccadilly line by about 15 minutes, but if you're schlepping cases it might make sense (I would do it myself)...it's also less crowded at Finsbury Park so probably a better chance of getting a seat or area you can stand with your bags.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I've done Euston-Heathrow lots of times both via the tube and via Heathrow Express. IME you don't save much time by getting the Heathrow express - it's maybe 15-20 minutes quicker than taking the tube if you're lucky, and is 4x the price. I generally only do it if something has gone wrong with the trains and I'm worried about missing my flight...
If you're travelling with a lot of luggage then a taxi to Paddington and then the Heathrow Express might be easiest, but will obviously cost more. If you can manage your luggage you might as well get the tube I reckon.
Oyster card is worth it if you visit London reasonably regularly, but probably not worth it if this is a one-off.0 -
TUBE is the best way to get there in my view. The less people who take those rip off 'express' services (such as the Heathrow and Stansted) the better.
Anyway if you are coming into Euston I would suggest just walking to Kings Cross and grabbing the Piccadilly line from there. It is only about a 500 metre walk max and would get rid of the problem of changing from the victoria to piccadilly line at green park, which as has been pointed out, is a bit of a nightmare if you have luggage.0 -
I have booked the connect service from Paddington takes 30mins - costs about £14.50 return runs every 30mins.0
